How to Achieve the ‘No Makeup Look’

Subtle makeup looks seem to be the order of the day on many Spring/Summer ‘14 runways. So how can you achieve this, perhaps, dauntingly bare look?!

1.       Moisturise:

Start with a freshly cleansed and moisturised base, this will let you see what sort of state your skin is in that day and let you establish what is naturally wonderful and what could do with a helpful hand!

2.       Concealer:

Conceal over any blemishes and under your eyes. I have the worst dark circles and a fab product I am loving at the minute is Soap and Glory’s Kick Ass Concealer. It comes with 2 different shades and a powder so you can set your concealer and not get that horrible creasy, greasy thing that happens!

3.       Even Out Skin Tone:

If you’ve got great skin skip steps 2 and 3 altogether!  – But for us mere mortals…You preferably won’t be using foundation for this look. Instead try using a primer-this will even out your skin tone and give your skin a fresh look that is horrifically hard to achieve under a layer of foundation! No7 do a fab product Beautifully Matte which is a makeup base that also leaves you with a matte finish so no need to powder! If you do want something heavier I would suggest a BB Cream or Mix a small amount of your own foundation in with a light moisturiser.

4.       Eyes:

Obviously we want to keep the eyes neutral…step away from the metalics! You really only need to use a translucent powder…however, if that is a bit too boring go to your favourite nude shade and sweep it across your lid ensuring you blend it out at the crease.

5.       Lashes and Brows:

Some girls have amazing lashes…if this is you avoid this step. If like me you look like an alien without mascara opt for a brown shade rather than a black and use an eyelash curler to open them out. Lightly fill in your brows with a powder (Faint from the Naked Basics Urban Decay Pallet is a great one)

6.       Cheeks:

Add a light sweep of blush to the apple of your cheek and blend it out. A cream blush is best for this, however if you live in fear of cream blush…powder is fine!

7.       Lips:

To finish this look slick on some lip balm or if you need that colour go for a lip stain rather than a stick Rimmel’s Lasting Finish 1,000 Kisses would work well for this, as it also comes with a balm so you can refresh your lips throughout the day.

Tada! Not so daunting! It’s a brave look but it can feel lovely to let your skin show itself off.
